EDSA People Power Commission
|
Twenty-seven years ago, millions of Filipinos brought forth the birth of People Power by standing up against a dictatorship through peaceful demonstrations.
The unity shown in EDSA by ordinary Filipinos, soldiers, and religious groups brought about the end of Martial Law. In that Salubungan, sectors who were previously at odds with each other set aside their differences and stood up for the good of the country. Today the ideals of People Power continue to inspire community-building initiatives all over the archipelago. Under the leadership of the EDSA People Power Commission (EPPC), young Filipinos are starting to realize their heritage as stewards of the spirit of People Power. They are now committing to the belief that when Filipinos, especially the youth, move as one, they can achieve positive change. On December 6-8, the youth, educators, businessmen, civilians and members of recognized organizations of the EDSA People Power Network (EPPNetwork) all over the country will gather in a Salubungan Workshop to discuss how they may unite their efforts to have a greater contribution to the nation’s transformation. The Salubungan Workshop was organized to accomplish the following objectives:
The Salubungan Workshop will likewise serve as platform for dialogue and interaction among the youth leaders of different provinces. It is our hope that, through this workshop, the volunteers may build a network, and work together in the future. People Power now rests in the hands of a new generation. To advance its hope and possibility is now our task. And while 27 years ago, our nation’s fate was changed by standing united in EDSA, today we have the opportunity to together discover new models of People Power. Let us all pray—and work as one—so that our Salubungan Workshop becomes an occasion of hope and transformation. |
